Well howdy and happy 2012 to you! It was a great new year in the Float Riverer household. Very mellow. We watched the fireworks on the BBC and then Invasion of the Body Snatchers was on TV, so we dug that too.

2011 was a fine year for us. Our first two tours and our first record, which, we have just been made aware, was noted in Shrieking Violet's 'Best of 2011' (if you click the headline above, you can have a look at the list). Hey, thanks for that Natalie.

This year's gonna start out a little slow publicly for us, as the first part of the year is gonna be spent working on the new record. We already have three songs recorded (at least in demo format) and we're gonna be getting more together soon. We're pretty excited, as it already sounds really different to the last record. Same band, of course, just a bit more fully realised. 'Any Road Up' below is the first example of such and there'll be more to come in video format in advance of the record coming out.

So far for this year we have one show booked in York on Feb 11th, where we'll debut a few of the new songs. As we work out our plans for the year a little more comprehensively, we'll let you know.

New video, general update, &cetera

Wheeeew! Sorry it's taken so long to update the blog but we've been completely kaput this last coupla weeks. The tour really took it out of us hydration and REM sleep wise. Lot of local brews in various places, if you see what we're saying. Thanks to all the promoters and folks who came out to see us. We were blown away by the love everyone showed us. One of the friends we met on the previous tour, Louise in Geneva, sent us the above video for our song 'Pack Mule' while we were away, so that was a nice present to come home to. We think you'll agree it's a bad ass piece of stop animation using shape shadows over still photography.

Anyway, we're back home in Manchester now, working on the new record. Few songs finished, polished and good to go. A couple more half written and jammed. More on the way. We're aiming to have it out early next year so we can start planning another tour, probably around March or May at the latest. In the meantime, dig the video and keep yr peepers peeled on this page for some tour photos v. v. soon.

Invoking Stones lyrics in a headline by way of letting you know that our record is the 'featured album' on Jeff Grainger's show on Dandelion Radio this month. The show is repeated at intervals throughout August, ending on 31st. Also, we just recorded three songs for a session for the October edition of the same show, so listen up for that. We did a stripped back cover version of one of the more well known rock'n'roll greats of the early '70s, but we'll say no more for now.

Tour update

Hey everyone. Nick here. We've been on tour for almost four weeks now. Summer is really happening down here in the southern parts of Europe. The sun is beating down on my right forearm as I drive and my tan is, thus, uneven. I'm also starting to realise just how important a pair of back-up jeans is. I want to cry every time I pull on this dirt-caked, stinking pair, although they look way cooler now they're falling apart. At least I have shorts.

The shows have been sweet and we've met some awesome people. I have personally fallen in love with Geneva, Opava and Barcelona. We were lucky enough to drive past the Dr Oetker factory in Germany, where the best frozen pizzas are made. We've also seen a great many cows on the motorway. In Germany, all the service stations have sex shops for the truck drivers, which is novel. You can't buy houmous there, but you can buy a cock ring, which makes perfect sense... Right?

We're now in Munich, Germany and about to buy some disposable cameras so we can actually document some of this trip (we've been pretty useless so far, although I plan to write a detailed account of ther whole trip once we get home). We miss our friends and families a great deal, but we're having an amazing time and, in a way, would be happy we never had to go back home. Can't wait to see everyone back in the MCR though. Love to you all. x

Hiss Heads zine launch

Nick curated bands for the Hiss Heads zine launch and we played a nice, slightly drunk set. Hic! Berlin artist Florian Fusco put the zine together - a collection of interviews with musicians/sound sculptors who record solely or mainly in their homes and bedrooms from the north west. It's a beautiful zine and you should try locate a copy. It will be available from the Good Grief! shop in Manchester in the coming days. other folks that played were My Carapace Is Leaking (aka Joincey), Sex Hands, Pascal Nichols and Former Bullies.

We've just finished our first tape. It's called Yorkshire Terriers and it's out in an edition of 100 copies on pink tapes with pink covers on Golden Lab Records. Seven songs, seventeen and a half minutes. Recorded at home to mono cassette recorder.
